Updates!!!
What happened in the past month? Attended my 1st ever 'Black Tie' event, attended a 'business' course at a 'society'(which turn out to be a crappy session), my cousin's wedding dinner at The Marriott, ktv session with "VMD", dengue, and err.... sealing a deal which will make me broke for the next 2 months. =(
Ok, let's start. The black tie event is the prestigious ASME/Lianhe Zaobao Singapore Promising Brand Award held at the Raffles Ballroom, hosted by Daryl David and Diana Ser, on 7th Oct. My company won the Heritage Award, which is only given to companies with over 40 years history. Thanks to my grandfather that we're here today. Interesting experience, seeing everyone so formally dressed up, all the big businessmen & women, of which I known none..... ok, at least I know 1 or 2. Overall a very boring event =P Too formal, too 'artificial', but that's the business-kind-of-function. Interesting dishes, fusion of international food such as sushi, smoked duck, 'garden vege' salad, chinese fried noodles, fried chicken, etc, and hot bread with pudding and mango sauce(most memorable).
Next, let's talk about my cousin's wedding dinner. It was held on Wednesday 12 Oct. On the way to the dinner, a stupid Merz taxi crash into my dad's car, lucky only major scratches, cost the taxi driver $500. Unhappy things aside, reach Marriott slightly later than supposed to, but as usual, everyone still standing around at the cocktail reception. My cousin's about 22-23 years old. Her hubby, not quite sure, but about same age I guess. Heard they spent 15K(!!) just on their wedding album. They got a flat at Pinnacle@Duxton, a new car, and wedding dinner at Marriott..... I'm worrying about their finance, the guy sign-on after 'O', my cousin just start working. Oh well, hope nothing goes wrong.
Given the seat at the VIP table with my parents, a bit stressed cause so many elders around and they're not getting the seats. But can't help, my auntie arranged it that way. Started off with the story of the boy and girl. Seeing the pictures of my cousin when she was much younger makes me emotional and remember the days when we played together, and now she's all grown up and married. My grandmother would have been very happy if she had been able to attend, but she's already gone for almost 2 years.
All my cousins have grown up, mostly as tall as me, some even taller. Time flies, I'm already 26! Can remember the days when all of us are still kids, playing around, running around, screaming around, and now all young adults. We don't normally meet since we grew up, only seeing each other at Chinese New Year. Think I should initiate and get everyone out for coffee/gathering.
Food was normal(other than the specially made Haagen Dazs ice cream), but the waitress that serve us is very good, always wearing a smile, and very attentive. Think her name is Wendy, as I didn't really want to look too carefully at her nametag right in front of her chest. Think she should have gotten a few service awards so she was chosen for the VIP table. The host, my cousin's younger sister, was quite impressive. From a cute, quiet girl to the confident, beautiful lady now.
Wrote so much today already, spent over 1 hour. Think I'll cut short for the next few events.
Dinner at Spageddies with VMD, Venus-Meiyu-Desmond, followed by ktv. Wasn't expecting ktv, but I 'chin-chye' just went along. $50 flies away again, but this gang is so much fun it's definitely worth spending the money, though I'm quite broke, coz I made this deal to buy a remote control robot from a guy. Cost me $1,250 after bargaining it down from $1,500. It was supposed to cost like $2.5-3k initially as it's a limited edition, but he's clearing it as he will be moving to Australia soon, pending the approval. High-tech toy, walking on 2 legs, with a camera for its mono-eye and a monitor on the remote control, shoots bullets from its gun. Best thing is I've another 2 at home, a green version and a red version(this one is the desert version I'm buying), so I've got the complete set. Keep telling myself this will be the last big item(toy) I'll buy, let's hope it will be, let's pray it will be, but who knows, but I really hope it will be the last. I had to sell off a few of my kits to finance this purchase, so I hope it will never happen again.
The business course was totally, totally crap. The professor was like doing a talk show, saying whatever comes into mind. Although he has a PowerPoint presentation, all the crap he was talking was not related. People are asking him like 'what is his view on local companies like Creative?' and he could say 'ah.... Creative, I know a bit of it, but did not really study the company, blah blah blah.......' and he didn't even know Sim Wong Hoo!! This is what you call know a bit about the company? And somehow he ended up talking about investment in China. Nobody ask him about that, we're talking about a company in Singapore, and he gave us nothing of it. Basically that was how the whole session went, more like an auntie session at the market. I ended up with a real headache, I had to take 2 times x 2 panadols that night. Supposed to have another session yesterday(23rd Oct), but as my big uncle (aka boss who sign me up for the course) not going, I escaped from the torture session. Thank GOD!
Dengue fever, my 5th uncle got "hit", stayed in hospital for 9 days. Think he got bitten at our warehouse, so we just avoided that place and had it fumigated. He lost quite some weight, 3-5kg, can see he has trimmed down. Maybe I should get it too, need to lose some weight also. :P
Ok, end of update, think I wrote many many things, probably you're tired after reading all this. Close your eyes, give them a rest. Thanks for reading this! :)
